About book A Royal Pain (2012)

I REALLY REALLY wish I could give this book more stars and a positive review. The concept of this book (American working gal falls in love with an English Duke without realizing he is a Duke and getting engaged and facing all the problems that come with an American girl becoming a Duchess) should have made for a really great chick-lit book.... but it didn't. At all.I love a great chick-lit book (heck, I even love really cheesy and poorly written chick-lit books), but this one was exceptionally bad. The author used far too many adjectives and it got to the point where you could skim the page and still understand what was going on. The conversation and dialogue in the book was absolutely ridiculous. NO ONE would ever hold a conversation like the characters did in the book. Sometimes they were too choppy, and other times they were too fluffy (almost like they were saying exactly what they think, and no one in their right mind would EVER actually say that in an actual conversation).I had high hopes for the book, and kept reading in hopes of it getting better, but it definitely didn't. I always have to finish a book once I've started and it was painful to get through the last bit of it.And the ending...... terrible. Someone should just take this exact plot line and rewrite the entire thing. I'm confident anyone could write it better. Sorry Megan. I thought it started out really well and I liked a lot of the dialogue. Sadly I started to lose interest about halfway because in some ways I thought the story was kind of done. I did go Back to finish it and it was a little slow going but then picked up. I thought with all the build up the ending wouldn't be as abrupt but I know the second book kind of fills in some of their relationship details. I still liked it and enjoyed some key scenes like when they first got together but I didn't love it.

Light reading. Held my interest. Just what I needed after "Dancing on Broken Glass."
