I enjoyed this book. The characters were generally easy to like, which is important since it is more of a character-driven rather than plot-driven book. There is a plot but the characters come out much more strongly in the story. The book got a bit preachy at times, literally preachy about God and how we should relate to Him (yes, Him. I don't know why people insist on Him but that is a different topic for a different time). That said, overall it was a solid read. I have signed out the second book of the series from the library as I am curious where it goes. First let me say that the audiobook performance was very well done. I wish goodreads would have a way to rate that separately. As for the book itself, it is a little too melodramatic for my tastes. There is certainly a time and place for a book that is just waiting to become a lifetime movie and I would have given the book 3-stars because in many ways it satisfies that brain candy niche. However, there were 2 things that knocked this down to 2 stars for me. First were the moments of religious sermonizing. I am not interested in being preached at. While I might have dismissed these few moments of preaching, it was the way that the author portrayed abortion that really tipped me over the edge to 2-stars. If you are going to write about such an emotionally wrought and personal decision you need to do it in a thoughtful way not as a springboard for more moralizing.
