About book Amor En El Infierno (2010)

Almost two years of having this book, I have finally chosen to read it. This is a good collection of stories, and definitely better than "Prom Nights From Hell". I also have the next book which is called "Vacations from Hell".Sleeping with the Spirit - Laurie Faria StolarzA ghost story, a very typical unexciting and very expected ghost story and yet with Stolarz amazing writing you can't help but be gripped and become central character as you feel the emotion between Brenda and Travis.Although, if this wasn't a young adult novel this so could have twisted so much and the outcome could have been so different.I'm not going to lie. I think Stolarz could have made it less typical and there was indefinite ways of doing it without losing style or depth. (4.5/5)Stupid Perfect World - Scott WesterfeldStupid Perfect World indeed. This was precisely what I needed to read for my creative writing project! A story set in the future!Took me some time to get my head around it, but once I did, that was it, I was hooked indefinitely, just like every other Scott Westerfeld story I have read. He truly is a phenomenal writer. This story is set in the future, but looks back on the ancient times (what we call the present), through a class called scarcity, in which each person takes up a project for two weeks, some take up the common cold, others take up transport, whereas our main character takes up sleep.Talk about engaging an audience. I love this story and author and definitely will be referencing this short story in my creative writing module. (5/5)Thinner Than Water - Justine LatbalestierStory about faeries, or the fey, it was engaging and enchanting, I loved it a lot and I was felt really involved. Would have been better to be able to grasp the village's traditions and understanding of their stories, I would have liked to have seen Jeannie turn her total hatred to her family, that scene would have been awesome, apart from that it was something I'm going to remember but not for a very long time like other stories I've recently read. (3.5/5)Fan Fictions - Gabrielle ZevinThis one confused the hell out of me although it was expected, obvious and unexciting. I just felt this could have been better and easier, feel like it's been done a thousand times already.A character from a book becomes a real person yet when it turns out he's not real at all she ends up going crazy.Besides the fact of it being predictable, it wasn't too bad of a read and kept me a little hooked even if we were expecting more. (2/5)Love Struck - Melissa MarrI found this one annoying, confusing and frustrating.Personally I hated the main character Alana, she needs to know when a good thing happens to her, like seriously he is standing right in front of her and she still tries to keep her distance, she annoyed me crazily and I couldn't understand her and she never made much sense. This jumped in too quickly and it made me more unnerved as it went along, it failed to make me understand in the first few pages and I had to re-read them to make sense of it, but even then it didn't make sense. They were shape shifting seals that fall in love with human women and leaves the sea altogether.Confusion is too small of a word. It was bizarre and only started making sense half way through, by that point I had already been lost and I wasn't coming back. However the writing did improve a little and I was interested in how it would end. (2/5)Overall this was so much better than "Prom Night from Hell" and has definitely given me inspiration here and there. I'm hoping that "Vacations from Hell" are just as good. I also hope more get released from this series. "Blue is For Nightmares" is about a girl in a new home that turns out to be haunted. It's rather sweet."Stupid Perfect World" is about teens taking a class called Scarcity in which they must commit to live two weeks under one of the hardships that used to assail people. Amusing look at teen romantic drama, with a side of Shakespeare's Hamlet."Thinner Than Water" is an ominous love story, in which a girl falls in love with an outcast as she plans to escape her ruthlessly traditional village for the modern world where she could study and pursue her dream of becoming a doctor."Fan Fictions" is creepy and disturbing, about an otherwise average sort of teen named Paige who is lonelier than she realizes."Love Struck" is a revelation: can a modern girl find a way to escape the trap of a selchie's skin? It's a strong collection covering a wide array of takes on unusual love stories. It is, as well, a fine introduction to the styles of the various writers. I was already a fan of Westerfeld and Larbalestier, now I'm eager to read more Marr and Zevin.Library copy.
