About book An English Bride In Scotland (2013)

I finished my first chapter and I wasn't sure if I should laugh or cry. The amount I've read so far is laughable. Silly, really. When her mother said something like "You will marry him, so your father and I won't be ruined." I knew this was going to be one of those books. The ones with the parents that are nothing like actual parents at all. I understand back then arranged marriages were commonplace but so far it amazingly farfetched. She responds in sarcasm when any other heroine would have been hightailing it out of there, or hell, even crying. But no, sarcasm, I mean, is that the best you can do? Annabel was left at a convent at the age of seven. At 21 she is removed from the convent by her parents to be married to the Laird Ross MacKay instead of her older sister who has run away with the stable master's son.Being raised in a convent does not prepare you for marriage, Maria Trapp notwithstanding. I always enjoy the many instances of humor in Lynsay Sands' books. I find myself laughing out loud. Both of the main characters are very sweet and I was particularly repulsed by the villain of the piece. Good strong portraits always make a story better. I'm ready for the next book in the series.
