THIS book was the most beautifully sad book I've ever read. All the things they went through...i couldn't take it... poor JAN, my gawd how can someone do that to another human being without so much of an ounce of guilt. All the things that transpired in that house for 2weeks, that's just brutal... it left me tired and apologetic (don't know why i felt the need to).Jan showed remarkable strength when i taught he would be the one to fall apart, he was the center piece of the all the chaos that happened in that house, he really surprised me when he kept it together even when he didn't always know what was going on half the time.GRAY...in the first book, i kept his character at arms length , didn't know what to do with him but now after reading this and seeing everything he went through, my gawd how can you not fall in love with him. he took charge of everything even when he was feeling lost, he still showed self control and handled things. i also loved how his love for JACK seem to come through more in the 2nd book. HE REALLY IS IN-LOVE WITH JACK. i loved it.finally,seeing JACK loose control, it killed me. it became rally had to read but i still kept n because i wanted to see him rise which i think he ?did?...i don't know.... but i think he has a better grip on it than during that first month after his release.overall...THIS IS THE KIND OF BOOK I LOVE, IT HAS EVERYTHING I CRAVE IN A BOOK, AND I LOVED ALL THE AUTHOR SEEM TO CONNECT EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE. BRILLIANT!! How in the world do I begin to sum up Antidote? Let’s see… usually, an antidote is anything that counteracts or relieves a harmful or unwanted condition – a remedy. But what happens when the “remedy” is far more sinister and harmful than the condition it was meant to address? I guess that’s where you get Jack L. Pyke’s version of Antidote. This story picks up not long after “Don’t” where Jack is pretty well recovered from his injury and getting antsy for the “all clear” with respect to his Master’s sub role and to see progress with his men. Once Jack is summoned back to the Master’s Circle, he has to go through a re-Mastering session that was one of the hotter than hell highlights of this story. Hell, it turns out, had an entirely different frame of reference for Jack (and Jan) (and Gray) and things were about to get dark and truly evil. Videos of Jack’s past showing up on various porn sites became the catalyst for some trust issues to develop and create a crack in the still fragile relationship between Jack, Gray and Jan. The perfect storm of events occur that finds Jack abducted and no one questioning his absence. And so begins the journey to hell and back. Let’s just say that what follows is raw and brutal – physically, emotionally and mentally. It left me as a reader just drained. At times, I could barely find the courage to read on peeking between my fingers because I was terrorized by what might happen next. At other times, I wanted to kick and scream and punch things over the sheer feeling of helplessness and anger over the inability to do something to help. And at yet other times, I found myself verbalizing a “NO” or “Mercy – please!!” I was wrecked over what transpired, seeing someone I loved broken piece by piece because someone else took exception to their lifestyle and had a sick way of trying to turn that against them. I don’t want to give away any more of the plot because the psychological aspects of the story and the suspense make a thrilling read. The difference between “Don’t” and “Antidote” is kind of like the difference between eating a decadent piece of chocolate and the worst damn piece of sour candy anyone ever dared you to try (the kind that makes your eyes water, makes you gag, has you pulling a nasty face, and makes you want to spit it back out as soon as possible). Yeah, they are that different on the darkness scale. However, just like the candy, if you can make it past the worst of the sour taste, you might actually emerge feeling a bit triumphant that you survived and perhaps you’ll even be ready for your next challenge. I know that I can’t wait for the next story in this series “Breakdown” which will fill in a bit more around the context of Antidote. However, the fourth story “Gray Matters” is the one I’ll be impatiently waiting for and keeping my fingers crossed that after the darkness comes the light. Brilliant writing – keep them coming Jack!!!
