Baked Alaska by Josi S. Kilpack is the 9th book in the Sadie Hoffmiller Culinary Mystery series. Sadie is on an Alaskan cruise with her two grown adopted children and her boyfriend Pete when the cruise is spoilt when they come across a comatose woman. A great addition to the series. I love how the characters and relationships progress. The recipes sound easy and delicious as well. An entertaining read. Makes me want to take an Alaskan cruise. I started reading this book Wednesday and completed it today, Monday. In the midst of driving to Riggins, and then Cascade, and then home, after a four-day, 250 mile four-wheeling ride in and around Hells Canyon. It was just the type of book to read when you only have snippets of time here and there for reading. This is the second book I've read by this author. Her book are a bit repetitive as I think she wants to make sure you're keeping up with the intrigue, mystery and clues along the way in each story. Still, they are fun, quick and easy to read. I especially enjoyed this book in her culinary mystery series because it takes place on a cruise ship in Alaska and in ports I'm well acquainted with. A bonus in this series is the delightful and delicious recipes she includes in the book at the end of most chapters which mention specific culinary specialties.One of the recipes in this novel includes a Salmon and Red Potatoes Chowder that was served by the Sweet Mermaids bakery, espresso, and deli in Ketchikan, Alaska and has a direct connection to my granddaughter. This chapter has elements of the story that are very significant to the end of the novel.There is just enough light romance, mystery, and unique locations to keep folks reading this series.
