About book Barely A Lady (2010)

This story has you hooked from the beginning, you are hopelessly caught up in the intrigue surrounding poor Olivia and then Jack as you learn bits and pieces you wonder how can it all work out. The villain is masterful and aloof as he charms everyone. Jack was a mystery and even he didn't know what he had done for the last five years, due to amnesia. Story was well written and kept you on your toes with all the cloak and dagger dealings and subterfuge. It was quite an entertaining read. Not sure if it just so happens that I've got something going on personally that left me feeling choked or if it's this book's suspense, since the first few pages, I can barely breath with all the goings on happening in the story for some reason, this makes it quite memorable for me, at times painful to read though I still cannot put it down till I came to the bitter end and found out what I needed to know. This is more of a storyline driven book to me. If you ask me about the H or h, I would have said neither of them are bad but then again, I cannot have said much more than a few sentences. It's the building of the plot and all the side characters that really help this book along and make it so unputdownable to me.The h is quite a recilient character. I do admire her a lot for what she's done (though really, I do hate the ending part because I felt like she lost somehow with what was revealed, like if that's what had happened, why all the fuss in the beginning seriously? I guess that has to be there to make the H "redeem" himself at least, but I wish there's another way to do it.) Though like a lot of h, she cannot resist the H when he's around, I somehow didn't find her to be weak or stupid. I guess it's because it's so obvious that the H adores her to distraction that makes it more beautiful than me wanting to shout at her "don't be such an idiot!" The H is really quite adorable in character, very brash and impulsive and all smiley charm, and at the same time this led him to make some really serious mistakes that wronged them both. Though I do like him when he's so puppy eyed with the h and was really quite confused for most of the book, making him seem less abrasive and tough that you will want to shout at him, I actually found what he's done pretty unforgivable (yes I'm quite a tough cookie I guess). And because of that, I think he got off pretty easily as I would have loved him to have grovelled oh so much more to get the h's trust back.Love was never a problem between the two, and it's really quite nice to see them being all sweet and sizzling all over the book yet knowing they do need to work hard towards the HEA they deserve. The plot is one of the things that I do very much enjoy here. Though not a fan of espionage and war and cloak and daggger novels, I find myself very much immersed in this story, wanting to dig into the bottom of the story as much as the main characters do. Another reason I love this story is the secondary characters, not only the other h's we should be seeing soon, but also the interesting household staff that's egging the protagonists along. The friendship amongst the women and the loyalty from the staff member really makes the household a very warm and safe cocoon to be in and in contrast, the outside world is full of snakes and vile creatures that one worries whenever one of the the characters so much as step outside (that really has me near to hyperventilating whenever they do).One scene actually was written so beautifully and with so much dignity that I had tears in my eyes when I read it. Considering that said character never even get a chance to say a word and that we hardly know him, I find it quite amazing how attached and touched I was by the whole scene and also by the heartfelt accord I felt at what was said about life in general.I only planned really to read this one because this was recommended as one of the plots I like, but now am curious about the rest of the series. Have to admit to wanting to skip the next one and go straight on to Kate though, as she and her Bea are my favorite girl out of the 3 with her sarcastic and bold remarks and big hearts, not to mention a colorful makeshift family in her house.
