About book Bastian's Storm (2014)

A good conclusion to Bastian and Raine's story. I was happy with where the first book left the story but after reading this sequel I think it ended things even better. This book followed Bastian as he tries to adjust to 'normal' life again with Raine when all he really wants to do is escape back to the island again. The story was a bit slow to start off with as it was mainly focusing on showcasing a few more of Bastian's issues - namely his temper and other asshole-ish tendencies. He pretty much doesn;t get along with anyone other than Raine and John Paul and even with them it's a stretch at times. The story mixes thing up when people from Bastian's past come calling and demand his participation in one last tournament. Bastian wants nothing to do with it but when they threaten everything he loves, he no longer has a choice. I won't give more of the story away but I will say that the last few chapters have quite a bit of action and tournament-style fighting, which was a bit different from the one fight Bastian had in the first book.Overall this was a pretty good story. Things weren't all unicorns and rainbows for Bastian and Raine when they got back but I liked the way Raine stuck by Bastian, even when he was being an idiot, and the way he responded by trying harder to be a better man for her. It also felt good to finally see Bastian confront his past and begin to change and become a better man so he could have a future with his family. I'd recommend this book if you've read Surviving Raine and enjoyed it. I was also intrigued by the tie-in this book had to the Evan Arden series and think I might check that out next. I just finished Bastian's Storm. Once I started reading I couldn't put the book down until I reached the end. Bastian's Storm is the continuation of Sebastian and Raine's story that began in Surviving Raine. Sebastian is so damaged and doesn't trust people. Raine loves him and she helps him want to be a better man. The problem is Sebastian's past won't let him go. I love the way Shay Savage tells a story. I can't think of anything I didn't like about this book. Another great author that I met reading the Bend Anthology.
