About book Blood Claim (2011)

I enjoyed this start to the series. I went in aware it was a series and read it anyway. I am very picky about reading series as they tend to go sour or lose my interest with repetitiveness. My only complaint about the book...just wanted more. I would have enjoyed a little more fleshing out..but all in all, what a great read. The book synopsis gives you an idea, but does not even give you a hint of what is really in the book. The end is a cliff hanger, a big one. This is not an HEA, it is definitely a page turner, and I will read the rest of the series. I would recommend this to my book club to read. One of the things I love about books with vampires as characters is there's so much lore out there that can be utilized or discarded when it comes to vamps in a particular story. This means authors are free to pick and choose the traits and characteristics that these creatures will have in the world they have created. The vampires in Blood Claim, the first book in the Half-Blood Princess series are no different. Thanks to a general knowledge of the RPG Vampire: The Masquerade, I am familiar with this particular origin story, but I liked the changes that Magen made to it, and thought was unique.Sophia, as a main character, was one I grew to like the more I learned about her. Of course, she has plenty of secrets that she's keeping from Dante and Tavian, two other vampires in Maldera Springs, Georgia. These secrets include what she is and why she's there. The book did start out a bit slow, but that allowed time to get to know a little bit more about the characters. There were a couple of characters that I wanted to slap, Kara and Irad being the two at the top of the list. I saw that Blood Claim is the first book in an eight book series thus far, and I'm interested in reading the next book to see how the story continues. This book is one that I'd recommend to those who like paranormal, vampires and a bit of urban fantasy and paranormal romance thrown in. My rating is 4/5 platypires.
