About book Blood Of The Wicked (2011)

I didn't have a problem finishing Blood of the Wicked and I plan to read at least one more book in the series but I am mainly continuing in hopes that my questions about this book get answered in later books even though they will be about different characters. The setting was unique and cool (the ruins of Seattle and a modern day Seattle built on top of it) but the world needed way more description and explanation because I was constantly confused about where the characters were physically at. I thought I understood the two cities world until Cooper started referring to levels between the two and then I couldn't picture the setting or how anything worked. My second big problem with the book is that while it has a clear resolution the why behind the entire book was never explained at all. Why was Jessie targeted? Did it have to be Jessie? Was it because she was Caleb's sister? How do Caleb's visions fit into any of this? I think the world building just wasn't good enough to support the plot... which is a problem I frequently run into with Paranormal Romances (it is hard to write both a fully developed romance and a fully developed world). Blood of the Wicked isn't horrible and it is easy to get through but the plot holes left me really frustrated at times. I've seen this book cover quite a few times over the years- and drooled, of course. However, I never actually bought the book. Well, I was at Half Price Books a few weeks ago (there was a huge sale) so I saw this and thought - what the hey, I'll give it a try. After finishing the book, I'm still kind of scratching my head. I don't really like books where I can't decide who the 'good guy' is or who the 'bad guy' is. This is one of those books that the good guy may just be an ass (Silas), while the bad guy just might somehow be a good guy. So back to the actual book review, do I like this world? No, I'm not thinking I liked the world at all. It's extremely strange- the Church is evil and doesn't appear to be extremely religious. I'm definitely okay with not having religion in a book (otherwise I might not be reading paranormal romances!), but this premise of the Church being bad kind of doesn't mix with what I believe. Was this the sole reason for me choosing a 3-star rating? No, it was not. I just had trouble finding Silas very likable (he might even have been lickable if he kept his mouth shut!). Jessie was likable, in her way, I guess. And they definitely had chemistry. I just don't know - there's something that was missing or I just didn't feel.Would I recommend this book? Well, I'm not so sure. I'm going to try to read book two eventually (another HPB purchase) and then make a decision. I'm trying to keep an open mind- since there's a chance that the plot could get good!

Do You like book Blood Of The Wicked (2011)?

Good, but not great. I may read another if I get bored just because I like the setting.
