About book Blue Skies Tomorrow (2011)

3.5-4 StarsI like this book the best of the "Wings of Glory" series mostly because I liked the couple's interaction, each of their backstories, and their personalities didn't annoy me as much as the others. These books are formulaic - the writer basically tells similar stories with different characters. I like romance, I like WWII historical fiction, so I like them. However even I didn't read these so quickly one after the other because they're all just too similar. Then again how many James Patterson novels read exactly the same? J.D. Robb? Once an author gets a good formula that most readers love, why change? Some may find that lazy, and I do to an extent, however when it works it works and as long as it isn't the only thing I ever read, I can enjoy it from time to time. That's how I feel about this author and this series. I know she wrote another series of 3 books, I'm sure it's done the same way, I may read it, but I won't be starting it tomorrow. If you're a fan of WWII historical fiction with a side of romance, you'll enjoy this book and this series. What an excellent end for this trilogy! I must confess that this was my first experience with "Christian writers" (I do not think this gender exists in Europe)but what I most loved about this Author is the way in which she can turn an exciting story into an adventure of the Spirit. This third book deals especially well with quite a difficult theme: domestic violence. One of the main characters is a battered wife and daughter in law. I believe that the excellency of the writer, in this case, is not to show us the sheer physical and psychological violence of the life of a battered victim, but also the fact that violence creates a mentality of shame and acceptance of the aggressions committed, because the victim becomes convinced that somehow "it is a deserved punishment". The aggressor creates in the victim a sense that it is its inherent imperfection and fault that "calls for punishment". Victims begin to believe that "they brought it upon themselves" and this insidious lack of self confidence is one of the worst consequences of a life with domestic violence. As usually, the Author manages to make this a very "real" book in terms of the research she did about the war and history in the US and Europe at that time. It is interesting and convincing and (even for those who would not normally read a "christian" book) definitely a good read!Maria Carmo,Lisbon 21 st. March 2013.
