About book Cat Scratch Fever (2012)

I liked this book but there was something really off about it. For instance, there was not much emphasis on the world building. Everywhere the characters went, there were either werewolves or lynchats, no mention about human beings. I couldn't make out if the characters lived in a normal world or somewhere else with minimal rate of human existence. Well, the world building is one of the most insignificant part of this book, so I guess it doesn't really matter. Another thing that ticked me off was the sudden admittance of Dante being in love. I felt that it was too sudden. Lilly falling in love with Dante was also sudden. Lilly admitted that she was in love at the spur of the moment during a conversation with her sister. Even though this was a short book, a quick read, I felt that the story had dragged out a little bit more than necessary. There were also parts in the middle where I found myself growing bored of their same sequential foreplay. I loved how the book started off but the abrupt ending resulted in disappointment. I give this book three stars for the likeable characters because despite what I thought of it in the end, I cared for them. One star for a strong, feminist Lilly. One star for a charming alpha werewolf, Dante. And another star for both their contrasting characters that managed to compliment each other. After the first chapter, I thought this would be mostly erotica with little plot, but after the first chapter, there was actually a story, which I enjoyed. Dante and Lilly have made it an art to fight each other. She wants some land from him, which his father got in a poker game and he has been refusing her for some time. She is persistent and comes back to try to convince him, but on this visit they discover and attraction to each other which builds to more. Lilly has a hard time trusting men in general, due to her parents relationship, and Dante also has a contentious relationship with his father. As Lilly and Dante get to know each other, they address and deal with these issues. I enjoyed the banter between Dante and and Lilly and enjoyed watching them come to realize their feelings for each other.
