About book: I was recommended this book by my teacher. This is an excellent book that gives an accurate account of what it would be like to be a slave as a child here in America during the Revolutionary War. The story follows Isabel, as she is sold to a bad family with her sister, after being promised freedom. The book gets more and more interesting as the reader sees just how badly Isabel wants freedom. To me, the issue of slavery should not just be a thing in the past, but we as humans must remember it forever, so that we never bring it back. Therefore, I would recommend this book to everyone that is 12 or older. This book is really good at showing the readers how great it is to live in freedom. There is a lot of violence in this book, but they are not super awful to read, but just enough to make the reader realize just how awful Isabel's life is. Warnings include many beatings of a girl, men a re hung and murdered, a boy gets his head blown off by a cannonball, a man punches his wife in the face, and prisoners freeze to death. Overall, a very eyeopening and good book. This book is about a 13 year old slave who lived during the late 1700’s named Isabel. When Isabel and her sister’s master dies, they get taken in to custody by his nephew, who sells them to a family in New York named the Lockton’s. Isabel is asked to spy on her owners in order to learn about the British invasion of the colonies, and she does it in exchange for freedom for her and her sister. An activity that students can do in classrooms could be to write a paper on slavery.Genre: Historical FictionFormat: Chapter BookReading Level: HighTheme/Topic: SlaveryGender: AllRace: AllSocioeconomic Status: AllAnderson, L. I had to read it for school, maybe that is why I did not like I but I don't recommend it at all.

Didn't feel like finishing for now, partly too detailed to keep up my interest. Maybe later...
