About book Chantress Alchemy (2014)

Song spells, a Chantress, the sea, the royal English court, and the Philosopher's Stone were a few things that made me purchase this book. (Not to mention, the beautiful cover picture of the Chantress). The contents of the book didn't disappoint either. This book reminded me of Harry Potter in a way. Not only because of the English setting, common elements of magic, Nicholas Flamel, and the Philosopher's Stone that were also present in Harry Potter, but also because the author answers all our questions and gives us a lot of surprises that catches the readers off guard towards the end of the book, similar to how JK Rowling often does. (Spoiler: example Prof. Quirell = Sir Isaac). I don't have many negative things to say about this book except that the protagonist seemed self-deprecating at times and a little too serious. It would have been nice to see a lighter side to the protagonist and have more confidence, but you have to remember the fact that despite being Lady Chantress, she is still a teenager, that too one faced with such responsibility at a young age. I also wished that ending wasn't so incomplete where Nat is concerned. But I'm almost positive that the author did that to pick it up at the next book. I can't wait to read the next book!.. This book was such an emotional roller-coaster!!!I thought that Lucy's life after defeating Lord Scargrave would be much calmer but it seems her adventures never end. In the first book we didn't have the chance to experience the life in the palace but now we can see the way Lucy's life changes after entering the court, a place full of plots and traitors. New characters are introduced in this book and they all are as much interesting as suspicious! I could feel Lucy's pain as she was facing her struggles and while the main character was trying to solve one problem, more and more appeared sinking her deeper into despair. It seems that the author knows how to keep her readers on the edge of their seat. But the most important part of the book was the ending, even though not many things happen at that time it was still the most emotionally charged part in the story. I hope there will be another book in the Chantress series so that Lucy's story can have the perfect ending.
