About book Come To Zion - The Wind And The Waves: Volume 1 (2012)

Dean Hughes does a fantastic job on the first novel of his series The Winds and the Waves. Will and Liz Lewis immigrate from England to America with the hopes of settling in Nauvoo, Illinois. Will is hoping to break from the cast system of England and improve his situation in life. Modern day, Jeff and Abby are struggling with trials that challenge their faith. Descendants of Will and Liz, they find themselves moving to Nauvoo and facing their challenges head on. Both couples are not so different in what they want and the difficulties they face. Each are learning to rely of the Lord.I really enjoyed this book and can not wait to find out how Will and Liz and Jeff and Abby develop further with their faith. I have awaited reading this book having several ahead of it. Dean Hughes is my most read author. I enjoy how he can take history and weave it with a fictitious plot and characters to make an interesting story. I enjoy the characters of Will and Liz. They must have had an interesting romance coming from opposite ends of the spectrum. It must have been a strong love. To see how people join a new religion and progress therein is also fascinating. The hardships of that time were also admirably portrayed like the work Will did on the rail line and how threatening it was to be out of work. I never would have guessed the voyage across the Atlantic would be so severe without Hughes excellently done portrayal. I also liked the part about the slanderous Mr. Harcourt and how sleazeballs like him do and did exist. Abby I like but Jeff seems a bit flaky for me....but that is maybe how Hughes wants it to be. I want to get book number two which recently came out.
