About book Cum Să Pictezi Un Mort (2011)

Maybe worth more than 3 stars, bits of it are haunting me already, it being nearly a page turner. An elderly artist pondering his imminent death, a blind girl with more senses than her sighted family & friends, a grieving twin clutching at life & dealing with grief through adultery, an old hippy painter, injured & alone on the moors at night remembering the 60s, struggling with fear & pain. Some of it set in Cumbria some of it in London & some in Italy but all of it linked by serous themes of art & religion. Sounds like it could be a bit heavy but very beautifully written. Worth the read, so thanks Caro! Did I forget to mention that conceiving a child in the midst of grief regardless of the circumstances was the highlight of the book for me. This was quite different to Sarah Hall's earlier novels, and although I did enjoy it, it wasn't as marvellous as The Electric Michelangelo.Alternating chapters follow the lives of 4 characters whose lives are linked in various ways - two in Italy, two in England. The stories are mostly quite dark - there is much angst in these pages - and introspective. But the book managed to get under my skin, and stayed with me for a few days after I'd finished reading.
