About book Das Bisschen Flitterwochen (2011)

This was more of a really long novella than a novel. The plot is barely there, meanders slowly around, sputters and dies, leaving behind no impact whatsoever. The main cast of characters are left behind and make only token appearances - even Sebastian's role in the book is pretty lacking, as he's absent for most of the main events. This one also creates a problem just to agonise over it, create false drama, and come to the obvious conclusion, with Garnet supposedly trying to decide on which goddess she wants to take to prom, or whatever. The conclusion was obvious from the outset, even though the heroine opined about wanting to be the vision of herself she saw with Athena - strong, sensible, together, wise. All that goes out the window, and she apparently gives up on being a better person, accepts the bitch she used to be, her present flaws, and her goddess. There isn't really a convincing argument made as to why, it just is.The bad guys in this book are thrown together and barely relevant, one of them even originating from a previous novella. There's no real suspense or mystery or really anything to make you give a damn who they are or what they want. Their villainy is feeble and bizarre in comparison to the previous books.I don't really know what this was. This book didn't accomplish anything, except to inform us that Garnet essentially raped a guy and doesn't consider it so (she has a boyfriend, casts a love spell on another girl's boyfriend in order to 'get him into bed', then forgets about them all and never undoes the spell. Her moral quandary here is that she stole another girl's fella, not that she used magic to coerce someone apparently unwilling into sleeping with her) among her many other past transgressions. This isn't really that surprising given her behaviour with Parish and Gabriel previously, but it seems she's still in denial about her flaws. But then accepts them anyway.Who knows. Honestly, I don't have a clue what the point of this book was. The series would have been much better off without this instalment, let alone without it ending on this note.It gets two stars, because it kept me going until the end (foolishly, I thought there was going to be something at the end to find) and I didn't hate the ride, I just didn't expect it to come to nothing. The last book of the Garnet Lacey series! Hallaway manages to be cliche in a non-average way (yes I'm aware that that makes no sense) that you just can't help but smile at. Perky, self-serving, eco-friendly blonde witch becomes sole survivor after witch hunters attack! Said witch hosts Lilith at mass murder party, resulting in move and goth cosmetic changes! Goth fakes death, finds Vampire soul mate, buys New Age store, outmaneuvers fellow Gods/Goddesses & becomes Demigod after realizing her devotion to Lilith! And her cat is allergic to magic, plus it's all set in Madison, WI and St Paul/Minneapolis, MN. Me happy reader.
