About book De Liefde Van Haar Leven (2008)

A nice, emotional driven story. Jumping back and forth between past and present, we learn & understand why Kate ran away to New York from London in the first place. Despite the book's title, it was hard to really pinpoint who 'the love of her life' would be, until half way through. The story, to me, was more about her making ammends with her friends Zoe and Francesca and trying to justify her reasons for leaving everyone behind so abruptly, because after all that Mac and Kate went through, I was left disappointed at the end. It became basically nothing and Kate very much annoyed me at around the 400 page mark for this reason. I do like the way Harriet Evans writes, however. She's awesome at brilliantly written family and friendship sagas, I just didn't think the title really had much to do with the content this time. I don't know why every book I read that has a single female 20-something living in London, I immediately think of Bridget Jones.... This character, Kate Miller, did have a lot in common with Bridget... Kate was in the magazine industry, Bridget the TV industry... both had a lot of unusual friends telling them how to live their lives... Both were most insecure about their appearance, personality, what other people thought of them... Both had parents with marital problems... Both were with the wrong man at the beginning of the book, but all ends well when they "find themselves" and get their lives in order and finally get hooked up with the right man.Now that I read over it, the two characters were more alike than I realized while reading the book.
