About book Deadly Games (2000)

Took me a little bit to get into this one as I couldn't remember all the characters, actions from the previous books but once I did - I couldn't put it down. Action? There's action galore in this one - up to and including a Kraken! Yup, this brought to mind 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and I loved it! Even a touch of romance (finally!) between Sicarious and Amaranthe. Looking forward to the next installment. Following shortly after book 2, this book starts slowly but builds to the fun and amusement that I’ve come to expect from this series. The plot sees the character spending quite a bit apart in small groups, and I found this lessened the excitement a bit. The characters are amusing, and a lot of that has to do with their interactions with each other. In that vein, I totally adore Sicarius. Is it weird that my favourite character is the silent and deadly assassin? He’s the straight man to everyone else’s droll antics. Plus Amaranthe’s attraction to him is highly amusing as he gives little indication of his own feelings in return. There was one scene that had me squeeing though! While the story started slow, the later half of the book saw much more action. The hook at the end that leads into book 4 was absolutely amazing! I can’t wait to find out what happens with that!Like the last book, I listened to the audiobook version of the story. The production of this audiobook was far superior to the previous book, and made for an enjoyable listen. The narration is spot on, with appropriate levels of sarcasm coming through perfectly.I really did enjoy this story, although the very slow start and broken up character groups makes me appreciate this story the least of the series so far. I am very excited about what is coming in book 4 though, so this is a series I will definitely be continuing.
