About book Deadshifted (2013)

I know that Deadshifted was somewhat unpopular with Edie Spence fans, but I actually thought that this book was better than the ones that preceded it in the series it had a slowly building, action-filled plot that kept me engaged as I watched Edie fight disaster after disaster in a battle to escape from this seemingly doomed cruise ship. I appreciated this because I'd found that the plot of the previous books seemed to somehow be lacking. It was mostly just a collection of events that didn't really build to a climax, which was disappointing to me as a reader. It was also cool to see Edie out of her comfort zone and to watch her navigate a world that she didn't really have much experience in including a pregnancy, her new relationship with Asher, a mysterious disease that seemed to be plaguing the ship and an underwater Leviathan intent on consuming every passenger on board the cruise ship. The plot strangely reminded me of a summer action blockbuster, something that I found to be a surprising bonus in a series that breaks so many urban fantasy conventions This is my favorite of the series so far because we see a softer side of Edie with a bit more focus on her relationship with Asher.Asher convinces Edie to take a 2 week vacation on a cruise ship from California to Hawaii. Edie's not crazy about being on the ocean, which I can relate to. Plus, the germs on cruise ships! Another reason I haven't gone on one. Of course, this vacation turns into a hell trip and now I really don't ever want to go on a cruise ship. Ever. This book had me sitting on the edge of my seat near the end. It has a nice pace. Really liked it and looking forward to the next installment.
