About book Depths (2000)

Well, I was glad to see Cohen get his own story! I absolutely loved him and his friendship with Deo in Lengths. He was so down to earth and was always talking sense into Deo, trying to guide him in the right direction. Cohen finds himself single and is still working for his parents at the furniture store. Maren also works for them, offsite at the warehouse. I was instantly jealous of the relationship that Cohen and Maren had with each other. I thought this was kind of off though because they had never actually met in person. They were so comfortable with one another during their phone conversations it made me want a friendship like that. They confide in one another and talk about life and what they have going on. I loved his reaction the first time they finally meet at an A’s game.“She’s a short little thing, curved in all the right places, dark hair twisted in two shiny braids. Her eyes are wide and a clear light blue. She smiles like she’s thinking something she shouldn’t, and for a stupid blip of a moment, I hope she’s thinking whatever she’s thinking about me. Something about her is…familiar.”I loved the instant ease that they have together. It doesn’t seem awkward, until they meet their dates in the stadium. When Maren’s boyfriend seemsoverly comfortable with Cohen’s date things get weird. This guy Jason is a jerk and Cohen knows it but he is too much of a gentleman to do anything. He wants Maren but he will not do anything while she is with another guy, even though said jerk is a douchebag in this schmexy girl’s opinion. It became frustrating to me for awhile because Cohen wanted Maren but not this way and then Maren wanted Cohen but she also wanted the safety and familiarity of Jason…ugh, enough already! Finally Maren wises up and she and Cohen get to know each other and begin to date. Thank goodness, I know Maren agrees…“‘Mmmm.’ I’m thinking to many things, so many sweet and nasty things I want to whisper in his ear but he’s unraveled me, left me panting and breaking apart in the most knee-knockingly, breath stealingly delicious way.”There is still something holding her back, even after the mind blowing sex, she needs to go home and check on her drunk dad….he always seems to be the root of her problems and the center of her world. This man needs help, serious help. Maren confides in Cohen about the situation and he takes matters into his own hands, behind Maren’s back. This will be a pivotal point in their relationship….no spoilers though! Go ahead and pick up Depths and get reading! I'm keeping this short:I like that the lead is a lot like DEO from LENGTHS; the real guy who doesn’t have it all together but tries his best anyway. The lead in this one reads like such a stand up guy, all sensitive, aware, and directed. Except somehow the bitchy one was right: he was a tad boring and staid. Things change quickly when he’s dumped. This set up’s a bit too typical, but hey.. I’ll take it. I like the bond that exists between him and the new girl… there’s an attraction there, and it’s when they finally meet that things start moving along. I also like how the drama doesn’t drown everything else out. She’s her baggage as does he, but they’re not buried in the angst of their present (too much. Well, at least the guy wasn’t). And if there were any angsty moments, there’s the after that had me reading on still. Of how she wants things and he wants things and they’re both young and doing something about it. So things went from cute to sexy… and yeah, this was an OK read.
