I had to add a new category after reading Vicki Myron's book about Dewey - favorites.Dewey is the story about an adorable kitten who is dropped in a book drop-off box in the town library on a cold winter's night in Spencer, Iowa. Soon, Dewey becomes a permanent fixture to the library. This book is purr-fect for a light read. I find Vicki Myron's colloquial style of writing relaxing, and complimentary to Dewey's story. By combining a sampling of Dewey's life and the struggles of the community and her own, Vicki is able to show how Dewey is really making a difference in this rural community. The economy is hitting hard in the farming district, and the result is hopelessness, joblessness, and depression. Some of the people coming to the library are looking for solutions to their life crises. Dewey offer them a respite from their life's struggles. I am a crazy cat lady. I suspect the writer of this book is one too. We both believe our cats communicate with us and that we know what they are thinking! I enjoyed the stories about Dewey, playing hide and seek, fussy eating and loving the attention from library patrons. I also have a bit of a soft spot for small town America, I've never been but I think it sounds quaint!I also liked the stories about Myron's life. It was real life and it was hard but it was real. “And right then I realised that she was right. The good, the bad, that's just life. Let it go. There's no need to fret about the past. The question is: who are you going to share it with tomorrow?” This is one for cat lovers.
