This could have been the best book in the world and all I would have remembered is the thing about cockroaches. It's literally wiped my mind clean of any other detail about this book. From the two stars, I'm guessing it wasn't one of my favourites. I think the hight point of this series for me is still Montalbano using his underwear to drag a corpse from the sea and that time he got almost got shot in the colon. Good times. As always, I enjoyed another outing with Inspector Montalbano. If you haven't listened to the book on audio CD yet, you really should. The reader is simply outstanding. I find I like listening better than reading the books. The first CD was particularly hilarious. I was driving to and from work and I still think the drivers near me thought me insane as I was laughing so hard!Once on CD#2 the real business of the book began. The old murder that the inspector discovers is made more difficult by the fact that it is August and steaming hot. He admits to having a hard time thinking because of the heat. As the story progresses, he finds more than one crime to keep him busy. If felt sorry for him at the end, but I wasn't terribly surprised.
