About book Dogtripping: 25 Rescues, 11 Volunteers, And 3 RVs On Our Canine Cross-Country Adventure (2013)

I have finished reading this beautifully written book and I would love to read the next one - if there would be another one. I first thought this book only described the journey to David's new house but it starts off with his own story on how he met his wife Debbie, her dog Tara and how Debbie and David got into dog rescuing. It also tells lots of stories about the dogs they have met, helped and / or kept in their home. In between David writes about their trip to Maine with their lovely dogs.I love writers who don't make themselves sound too perfect and this is what you get here. Life is never perfect and no person is but this book is perfect the way it was written. I cried and laughed or did both at the same time. And I could not help myself sharing parts of the book with my husband. I just loved it! I thought I was going to read about life on the road, packed to the rafters with pups. Instead I got a rant about animal shelters. My own dog is a rescue, so I get it... people that don't get it aren't going to change their minds by being lectured. The author is not very likable, which he admits. So, he should have talked about himself less.My main question was, "How do they train & love 25 dogs?" I got the impression that they didn't worry about teaching basic behavior, they just didn't want these poor dogs killed. While I agree with that, I wish they would have fostered and trained dogs for future adoptions, not just hoard a huge pack on their property.
