About book Doukakis's Apprentice - Pencuri Hati Doukakis (2012)

I like light fairy-tales with HEA ending but here I also liked characters. Both hero and heroine were likable. Well, may be heroine was a little bit Mary Sue, but not overly much to become unattractive to reader.Personally I would give him more time to change, cause all his change was very sudden: few weeks and Damon is completely rebirthed and changing his business administration strategy. Not buying it. Otherwise it was really great story. I thought this book was just so refreshing! The underlying plot and side characters are fairly uncomplicated; it's the two main characters that this book is all about. They've both had independence and hard work thrust on them at a young age due to non-traditional/unhappy childhoods; the difference is that Damon now feels the need to be in outright control at all times, whereas Polly is far more easy-going but has little faith in romantic relationships. Add some chemistry and a slightly volatile history, and they're forced to re-think how they view certain things in life.I genuinely have never loved a contemporary romance heroine as much as I have loved Polly Prince! She's just so bad-ass in a self-sufficient way that you can't help but be swept along in her enthusiasm. I loved that she didn't have to alter her nature in any way, despite Damon's obvious disapproval, but instead turned him around to seeing things her way.And while I liked Damon, and appreciated the reasons why he is who is, I felt I didn't get enough of him to love him unreservedly. Tbh the most you get to see of him is when he's relentlessly (and completely misguidedly) judgmental of Polly at the start which didn't endear him to me at all. Even his thought process for most of the book I found fairly misogynistic/alpha A-hole, but I'm going to reluctantly give him the benefit of the doubt and attribute it to his brotherly anger or whatever. Still, he gets plus points for practically raising his sister; and he did come round and massively redeem himself in the end.But even that didn't really pull me out of my book trance because Polly is the main event, and rightly so! She refuses to take Damon's crap whenever he hands it out, and it's so refreshing to see that her satisfaction with life is so not dependent on his. Sure, she feels the same hurt or pleasure or nerves or whatever that anyone would in the circumstances she's in but her happiness with her own life is so independent of Damon that I can't help but love her! And from what I saw of her masterfully sneaky, superbly subtle manipulation of things to make them go her own way, she's the perfect match for Damon's more obvious ruthlessness. Their chemistry is beautiful to watch, but what I loved even more was their honesty (for the most part) with each other. All I wanted was to read more about them (actually scratch that, I just want to read on and on about HER adventures in life) whether in private or at work. I honestly wish I could work at a place like Prince Advertising because it sounds amazing-and I have to second with another review on here that the "hot desk" idea is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of! The only flaw with this is that it isn't longer-I would have loved to explore both their crazy family dynamics more, or just see more of their dealings with each other. Regardless, in Polly Prince, I have a new standard that every other contemporary romance heroine (and maybe some historical ones) will be judged against!
