About book Edmund Bertram's Diary (2008)

This is the first book I've read in this series, by Amanda Grange's reworking of a Jane Austen story from the man's point of view. This novel is based on "Mansfield Park" but from Edmund Bertram's viewpoint. To begin the book we see where Fanny Price arrives at Mansfield Park at 10 years old. Edmund befriends her, looks after her as she grows older. In his writings he writes a lot about Mary Crawford, because she was the woman he was in love with, even though she didn't really love him.He continued his friendship with Fanny not realizing she was in love with him, as he discussed his love for Mary Crawford to Fanny, and asked her advice about Mary. But all turns out well in the end...I understand Edmund better now after reading this book. I even like him better now. And Fanny, sweet little thing that she was, what was not to like about her?So if you would like to know and understand Edmund Bertram a little better, and read about Mansfield Park through his eyes, than give this book a try, who knows you may become a Austenite too!I enjoyed this book, I had a nice two day visit to Mansfield Park this week-end.This book is part of my personal library. Another reviewer made this comment, which accurately sums up how I feel about this book: "Would probably have given it four stars for how much I enjoyed reading it, but I think a lot of that enjoyment came from Jane Austen and not Amanda Grange."The language was surprisingly believable, and the characters were true to form. It was mostly repetitive and didn't add anything extra to Mansfield Park. Since I wasn't expecting much, I was pleasantly surprised.

I really enjoyed this book. It was much easier to get through than Mansfield Park by Jane Austen.
