About book Een Blijvende Indruk (2012)

I am a fan of Tamera Alexander. Her book, "To Whisper Her Name" grabbed me. The characters are very good. I especially like that her books are about real places that you can even look up on the Internet and find out more about the real people who lived there. Some are open for public tours. Alexander has done a masterful job of incorporating the history of the places she uses as story backdrops. Wonderful book. Overall this book was a strong read - with some exceptions. Pros: The author outdid herself on keeping the characters within the novel consistent, fun, and easy to love. I found myself capturing the same "memories" the characters did and tucking them away in my heart (never before has an author grabbed my attention like that). Rooting for the heroes was easy since the author did a great job of making them human, but admirable. I was disappointed with the females character traits in the beginning, but it was a problem soon remedied and I got over it. The history in this book is also easy to fall in love with...although I would not want to live at Belmont, I do want to visit it for sure! The religious aspects of the book were mostly expertly addressed and was not overly preachy. There was just enough romance, but.....Cons: I am mentioning the biggest one first...bluntly: too many references to girl's...um, boobs. Whether it was a piece of artwork begin described or Claire's dress being sleeveless...I found myself silently editing small sentences where the body parts were being implied. Although I would label this as a clean romance (not pornography), those four or five references were enough to make me squirm a little. Other people might not be bothered by it, just me - but there is my warning. Another con some might consider is the length of the book based on scenery details. I am usually not a fan of it, but given this novel is based on artwork, I rolled with it and it fit nicely. I don't know yet if I would by this book. I am happy I read it and WILL read the next book coming out soon. The author is talented, but I will stop reading her books if the romantic cleanliness of the book does not improve.

A nice romantic historical fiction with a Christian undertone more prominent in the last third.
