One thing I've noticed is that you are introduce with the main event or reason, like the first it was the hunt of Uram, and in this it's the ball of Lijuan. Then in between, other events follow; murders, hunt, raw romance, raw sex, more hunt and sarcasm-love it by the way and only till the end you can enjoy the main event, such as who is the bad guy or girl and who dies or become semi-dead in a non-zombie way. Can't wait to read the next one, to see how NW react to the Hunter-Made-Angel :D I enjoyed this book more than the first one, though I definitely missed Sara and Elena's other Guild buddies back in New York. Most of this story takes place in the Refuge and focuses on Elena dealing with her Change. Once again, I liked her and Raphael MUCH better when they were apart. Put them in the same room, and it's obnoxious romance cliché time. -_- I skimmed most of their gushy bonding and semi-creepy sex scenes (seriously, did anyone else find it disturbing that Elena was always hot and ready to go after having traumetizing nightmares about her sisters' brutal murders?! Wtf.). Unecessary relationship drama aside, I enjoyed finding out more about the Angels' world and their endless political battles. Ms. Singh has such a creative and unusual angle there. Meeting the rest of Raphael's Seven was a treat, and so were many of the other Angels introduced in this book. Illium and Dmitri are here as well, though Dmitri eventually gets sent back to New York and I missed him greatly! The side characters are definitely still the stars for me in this series.The ending, unfortunately, felt terribly anticlimactic. There was all this intrigue, mystery, and ominous buildup about Lijuan and her creepy reborn...for it all to be sloppily resolved in the last twenty pages. That was quite a letdown. I would have taken less weird PTSD sex and more actual plot.The third book is set back in New York, however, so I'm hopeful that Ellie will get her shit together and we'll see more of the Guild! More Dmitri and Illium wouldn't hurt, either. ;)
