About book El Rey Arturo: El Hijo Del Dragón (2009)

First of the Arthur trilogy, and it promises to be just as entertaining as the Merlin trilogy. A whole new take on Arthur's childhood and what formed him in the context of the turmoil as Roman influence waned and the Celts, Saxons and Jutes jockeyed for ownership of the land. I may have to break down and purchase the other two as they don't seem to be available through the library and I don't think I can wait. I gave the first two thirds of the book one star, but the last third three stars! I almost gave up on this book many times. It's a fairly easy (but relatively long) read, but I found the description of Artorex's younger days cringeworthy. There was no momentum in that part of the book and the descriptions were sentimental with all characters being either an angel or the devil. I found the sections from the point of view of Gruffydd really enjoyable and I felt that many of the characters were much more rounded by the end of the novel. There was definitely character progression in the novel and despite the shaky start I am tempted to read the next book in the series.
