About book Encyclopedia Brown Keeps The Peace (1982)

The Case of the Silver Fruit Bowl. Chief Brown wants Encyclopedia’s opinion on a case. Mr. Holt claims that his store was robbed of a set of silver which he was trying to sell on behalf of a friend, but Chief Brown isn’t sure if Mr. Holt is telling the truth. Can Encyclopedia take a peek at the facts? The Case of the Dwarf’s Beard. That Bugs Meany! He’s such a – well – meany. Now he’s stolen a set of candles from Gary Hale – candles Gary was ecstatic to win as the prize to a contest. But can Encyclopedia prove that the candles ever belonged to Gary in the first place? The Case of Bugs Meany’s Revenge. After a prank phone call wastes an hour of his time, Encyclopedia returns to his office only to be accused by Bugs Meany of having stolen his wristwatch! Can Encyclopedia establish his own innocence? The Case of the Cave Drawings. Wilford Wiggins is up to his old tricks. Now he claims that he has discovered drawings by cavemen in a deep hole in the ground and is offering to let any of the kids become his business partner – if they invest five dollars in the business. It’s up to Encyclopedia to save the kids’ money! The Case of the Wanted Man. When Bryan Horton comes to Encyclopedia claiming to have seen a wanted man, Encyclopedia knows that this is a case for Chief Brown. Will the two of them be able to track down this criminal? The Case of the Angry Cook. Cicero Sturgess, Idaville’s greatest child actor, has just had a close shave with an angry and armed cook. The cook has decided that Cicero was an accessory in the theft of three hundred dollars from the restaurant and insists that he be arrested. Can Encyclopedia prove who was really to blame? The Case of the Missing Ring. Encyclopedia has been called out to investigate a peculiar case. A house has been broken into, and a diamond ring has disappeared, but it can’t be proven that the ring was stolen – it may have been hidden by its owner who has since lost his memory. Can Encyclopedia find the ring? The Case of the Money-Changer. Hector Conklin is convinced that Red Slattery is about to rob him. And there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it! Can Encyclopedia at least find a way to have the incident witnessed by an adult so that the money can be recovered and Red taught a lesson? The Case of the Falling Woman. Scott Curtis has decided to enter a few photographs at the Junior Photography Show, even though he knows he won’t win – not with Winthrop Ledbetter in the contest. It seems that Winthrop wins everything he enters… he might even be a cheater…The Case of the Red Boat. When Encyclopedia saw his father slip a gun into their tacklebox, he knew that they were off on more than just a fishing trip. As he soon finds out, they are searching for two men who recently robbed a millionaire of $ 300,000 worth of jewels and escaped in a motorboat. But can Encyclopedia and Chief Brown identify the motorboat – and the thieves – if the loot has been done away with?Discussion. There are the three recurring themes in the Encyclopedia Brown series. True to form, they made their appearance here in Sets the Pace.1. Encyclopedia’s father, Chief Brown brings home all of his most difficult cases home for Encyclopedia to solve because he’s so much smarter than all adults.2. Sally Kimball is described not only as the prettiest girl in fifth grade, but also as the best fighter. She punches out boys whenever she feels they deserve it.3. Children call each other names and get into shouting matches.Encyclopedia uses evolution to prove one of his theories.Conclusion. Not even remarkable amongst Encyclopedia Brown cases.Visit The Blithering Bookster to read more reviews!www.blitheringbookster.com

I loved these books as a kid, it was fun rereading them.Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.5 stars... I loved this book! It had earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Leroy Brown is back in the next six books in the Encyclopedia Brown series. As IdavilleÂ's ten-year-old star detective, Encyclopedia has an uncanny knack for trivia. With his unconventional knowledge, he solves mysteries for the neighborhood kids through his own detective agency. But his dad also happens to be the chief of the Idaville police department, and every night around the dinner table, Encyclopedia helps him solve some of the most baffling crimes. With ten confounding mysteries in each book, not only does Encyclopedia have a chance to solve them, but readers are given all the clues as well and can chime in with their own solutions. Interactive and fun—itÂ's classic Encyclopedia Brown!

I happened to walk past some Encyclopedia Brown books at the library the other day, and couldn't resist picking them up. I LOVED these books when I was a kid, when my dad used to read them aloud to me and I tried fervently to solve the case before Encyclopedia did. That usually never happened, because some of the answers were SO STUPID and no normal person could have ever solved them. Anyway, had I not re-read this, I would have had these in my memory as awesome books, but re-reading them now made me roll my eyes. But, for nostalgia's sake, I will give this 3 stars.

Looks like some hate crime in Idaville as it has lost all but one of its Synagogues; Sobol doesn't tell the reader if this is because the temples were burned down or if the Jewish people were driven out of town. Kind of dark for a children's book.Otherwise, Sobol does a decent job of having the solutions naturally arise. Still never makes sense that everyone always confesses at the first obstacle (or why knowing how to do a double exposure is grounds for disqualification in a photography contest.
