About book From The Heart: Tonight And Always / Endings And Beginnings / A Matter Of Choice (2000)
I have been very apprehensive about reading any books in the romance genre. Specifically, because I thought I wouldn't enjoy them. Yet, after reading about genres in Joyce Saricks The Readers' Advisory Guide to Genre Fiction, I realized she mentioned Nora Roberts name many times in the chapter titled, Romantic Suspense. The frequent mentioning of her name was effective because I visited the library on my lunch break to start reading some Romantic Suspense novels. The first book I picked up was From the Heart by Nora Roberts. When I picked it up, I realized it was pretty thick and normally I don't choose books of this length. When I opened it though, I realized it was three novels in one book. I started with the first novel, called Tonight and Always. This is my first romance novel, and while I was apprehensive, in a few short hours I had already read over 50 pages. To be honest, it's really hard to put this book down.Kathleen Wyatt, or Kasey as she calls herself, has just arrived at a mansion. She is an anthropologist, who has agreed to help a writer, Jordan Taylor, research his book. His assistant in the process is Dr.Rhodes. In addition there is Beatrice Taylor, Jordan's mother, and Jordan's niece, Alison. What I enjoy about the book is that yes it is a romance, but there is humor involved, which makes it that much more appealing. The story is quick paced because there is so much dialogue. As the reader, we learn something about the main characters initially, but you can tell that character development continues throughout the novel. I really enjoy the relationship that develops between Kasey and Alison. Kasey finds herself drawn to Alison, because like the young girl, Kasey also lost both her parents. She feels that Alison acts more like an old lady, than a little girl. But she makes it her mission to show Alison how to have fun. We can't forget this is a romance, so Kasey and Jordan pretty much have an instant connection. While I do enjoy the book, some parts (especially where Nora Robert's explains in detail, about the sexual encounters between Kasey and Jordan) can be a bit too much for me. It's more about the word choice and her description, which I find pretty cheesy. Yet, I can't deny that I am enjoying my first foray into the romance world.

Ambos são ariscos e determinados, com personalidades muito semelhantes que vão entrar em conflito, criando uma explosão inicial mas que depois resulta na fusão típica de Nora de dois corações e indivíduos. É por isso que esta escritora nunca me desilude, dando-me do que mais gosto.. e mais um bocadinho de algo.Este algo está recheado de romance e coberto por suspense, dois ingredientes que Eleonor Marie (nome verdadeiro da escritora) mistura na perfeição e sempre de uma maneira ligeiramente diferente.A empatia por Liv e Thorpe surgiu instantaneamente e na mesma quantidade dos pares Brenna & Shawn (Lágrimas da Lua) ou Roxanne & Luke (Jogos de Mãos), até agora os meus preferidos, mas mesmo assim Fins e Recomeços continua a ser apenas um conto e uma demonstração do talento da escritora.O segredo de Olivia, bastante dramático e emotivo, tudo q.b., serviu para aumentar a fasquia do conto. Tambem achei o passado desta bastante interessante, visto que mostrou um lado mais injusto e adulto da infância dela, contribuindo com cicatrizes emocionais e fazendo-me perceber melhor a sua personalidade. A sua imagem perfeita é assim transformada em algo mais real e acessível.Infelizmente, a autora não fez o mesmo com Thorpe, tornando-o mais misterioso e desconhecido. Em relação a este, não gostei de algumas atitudes deste, as mais agressivas e machistas, dois pontos que me fazem logo gostar menos de uma personagem masculina. Apesar disto acabei por gostar dele à mesma.Os pormenores culinários, tão habituais nos livros de Nora Roberts, continuam a contribuir com aquele toque de conforto e realidade, tornando tudo muito mais próximo do leitor, fazendo-nos imaginar que toda a história nos poderia acontecer a nós, fazendo assim as mais românticas suspirar.. ainda mais.Apenas achei o fim demasiado apressado, já que a última cena tinha muito mais que desenvolver e explorar. Apesar simpatizar com Thorpe, defendo que um ferimentozito no braço ou até um corte no rosto (que o tornaria ainda mais atraente) daria muito mais ênfase a toda a cena, já para não falar no ambiente de perigo e suspense.

Mais um livrinho da Nora, não foi aquele livro que me arrebatasse totalmente mas lê-se bem, é um conjunto de histórias com o tipico happy ending mas que tem sempre aquele toque de romance que ela já nos habituou...Das três histórias já tinha lido duas há uns anos, mas definitivamente a que me fica no coração será "A Última Noite", adoro os protagonistas e o final é tão fofo! A segunda foi boa de reler, a terceira não conhecia mesmo e achei piada aos protagonistas e à teimosia destes!Para finalizar este livro é tão 80's, toda a gente fuma em qualquer lado e a qualquer hora, telefones fixos e todas as casas tem uma sala de estar (também devia ser moda na altura) e as típicas máquinas de escrever como elemento fulcral no trabalho são um mimo!

Ok. Hmmmmm....Well, as for the first story: I liked it overall, but it got a bit boring and I was really eager to finish it off quickly. So I give 3 stars.The second improved slightly but it wasn´t that good either. 3 stars.Now, with the last story, I was hooked. I loved both main leads, absolutely loved his confidence and seduction tactics. The story was emotional, witty, and I could believe it to be true. The saving grace of this book, indeed. 5 stars.
