About book: I thought the writing in this book was somewhat immature and repetitive. As mentioned by other reviewers, certain words and phrases were over-used. What caught my attention was the story of her friend with the hairbrush and her stepdad who sexually abused her. Gwen retold the story many times throughout the series but used almost EXACTLY the same wording every single time. I would be reading the parts and thinking "major deja vu"! The plot line was decent but the writing definitely could have been better! My take on this book is that it is incredible! I would like to give the narrator Tara Sands a HUGE shout out for an awesome performance! She was absolutely Fangtastic, and that is why I give her a 5 fang rating. The story was pretty awesome as well. I mean, for a book that had no sex in it! You know I'm a smut puppy and love my steamy paranormal romances, but this book is ACES with me : )The story was all about Gwen Frost, a Gypsy with the ability to see and feel things from objects that she touches. How cool would that be, right? Her grandmother has the ability to see the future, and works as the local psychic in Asheville, NC, (my neck of the woods baby, yay!). Gwen's mother was a police detective who was killed by a drunk driver very recently. Touching a classmate's hair brush and seeing the horrible acts that were forced upon her from her own step father, sent Gwen in a tail spin of nightmares and angst over ever being able to trust touching another person's personal objects again! She not only saw what had happened to her friend, but felt the terror her friend felt because of her disgusting pig of a step father. I would have chopped his shit off while he was sleeping!!Shortly after this incident was when her mother was killed and when Professor Medas came to visit Gwen and her grandmother from the Mythos Academy to let Gwen know that she was going to be transferring to her school. And, might I add, with no explanation to Gwen as to why, or what the hell was going on. She thought the school was your everyday run of the mill private school, poor schmuck. After attending the Mythos Academy for a few months, Gwen still has no friends, and is made fun of for being a Gypsy, and feels separated from the rest of the kids and even shunned. These little fracking brats need to grow a fracking conscience! Some heart, soul, something! Almost all the kids in this school are rich spoiled brats, that Gwen seems to have nothing in common with, especially the "popular girls", Daphne, Morgan, and Jasmine. They target Gwen when they have nothing better to do and make fun of how she dresses all the time. I just wanted to bitch slap each and every one of them!Gwen was working in the Library of Antiquities one day when a crash caught her attention and no one else was suppose to be left in the library. She discovers the horrific scene of her classmate Jasmine dead with her throat cut open! And one of the precious artifacts missing!! Dun dun dunnnn... What's a girl to do but touch the dead chick to see what happens, but nothing. No visions, no feelings, other than dead girl feelings, nada! As Gwen tries to process what has happened and how she feels about it, she notices everyone acting like it's no big deal and just goes about their business. Weird right? I mean, come on, the bitch is dead, and no one is crying, holding a memorial or even giving a moment of silence or some shit like that?? So in lieu of this, Gwen decides that someone should care enough to find out what really happened to her, because everyone else doesn't seem to give a shit. During her investigation, Gwen develops relationships with the very kids that used to make fun of her. She discovers just how evil to the core Jasmine really was, and so does her friend Daphne. In this light bulb moment Daphne has, she begins to not only help Gwen, but slowly becomes her friend. It's all very sweet and heartwarming. And then, there is Logan Quinn. I'm not saying Logan is anything but a teenager, but apparently he is hot to Gwen and all the other girls, earning him the man-whore reputation on campus. BUT, as Gwen spends more time around Logan, she starts crushing on him. He is, after all, a Spartan, a great and powerful warrior type, who wouldn't be?The farther Gwen delves into the mystery of Jasmine's death, the more she discovers about herself, the Academy and her peers. Gwen really had no idea what type of school she was attending, nor did she really know her classmates and their abilities. As the mystery unfolds Gwen is in for the shock of a lifetime when she discovers the whole truth and nothing but the truth! Damn it! The climactic ending had me on the edge of my seat, and craving more from the book. I'm so glad this is a series though, because now I can read on and follow Gwen as she develops and flourishes in her new found destiny.
