About book Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls (2010)

I enjoyed this 5th entry in the MJ Holliday & Gilley Gillespie Ghoul Getters series very much. I loved the way Victoria Laurie twisted several storylines together coming up with a cohesive story sort of like a braid of hair. We had multiple ghosts at a castle in Ireland, all of whom were scared by an onsite phantom released from his talisman by gold hunters, which he now guards. It sounded like he was the worst "ghoul" MJ and Gilley and Heath had encountered. Rumor has it that the man who built the castle hid a booty of gold somewhere within the vast rooms and crypts. The castle was high on a bluff so there were several ghosts there because they fell off the cliffs. One in particular held the secret to accessing the phantom and therefore the gold. Gopher disappears in the castle and cannot be found there or on the rocks below; MJ and Heath cannot feel his spirit, which hopefully means he has not died. Without Gopher leading production of "Ghoul Getters" and sending footage off to the big wigs who control the show, they decide to cancel the show and fire everyone. Now the ghost busting team must find a way to make the phantom disappear, help any ghosts that want to cross over, find Gopher, help him get the show renewed or find a new home for it, all while suffering falls and wounds and Gilley eating every piece of food in site. It's amazing how Victoria Laurie can mix together storylines like that! The humorous Gilley stuffing his face while a phantom scares every one alive or dead at the castle. Somehow, which I won't reveal, they get the job done. This entry can easily stand on its own but is so much richer knowing the characters and watching them grow. Awesome!Sandie Herron 1st person threw me off, but that's because I wasn't expecting it. But away from that, this story very much reminded me of Woman in Black. Creepy-ass movie. There was enough humor to keep me going, and I thought it was a romance. It... isn't... nor is it a comedy... it's supposed to be mystery or horror.. or both. It doesn't frighten me, but it's an entertaining ghost story. It screams "PG-13 version of Woman in Black" though...It's good, don't get me wrong... just not what I was expecting. It was in the grocery store and on the romance shelf.. so I though it was romance. It didn't click in my head that it wasn't when I was reading the back.Ghouls Ghouls Ghouls was good. It's part of a series of ghost stories revolving around the same main character. Go figure, I pick up a book from the grocery store that turns out to be the middle book of a series. Wonderful. It was a very good story though. Tied off really well. Good mystery. No scary parts. The writer wrote the scary scene's in a "tell not show" sort of way, so it was a bit difficult to imagine, but it was fine. I didn't need to find myself ready to vomit the way I felt when I read Urban Gothic from Brian Keene. This is definitely a keeper... though I'm just trying to figure out which shelf to place it on.

Cute ghost story series. Not a lot of romance but they keep you reading.
