About book Gods Of Risk (2012)

A short, okay story that serves as a bridge between the second and third volume of the Expanse saga. While it's a nice look into the previously unexplored territory of a Mars city still under the effects of Caliban's War ending, and a way to follow up on one of the best characters introduced in the same book, it's not as gripping as the full blown space operas that we've come to expect from the saga, and I believe that's my main gripe with it. All in all, a quick read, and while I would recommend it as a short pit stop between the larger volumes, I'm glad to continue onwards, to space and beyond Abbadon's Gate. A decent story, that adds little to the backstory of Mars in the Expanse universe. While it was a moderately thrilling story that fleshed out a bit of the background, I ultimately felt like it was only tangentially related to the original source material. The main character, while perhaps rightfully angsty and brooding, was a little hard to relate to, and most of the time I despised his teenage self.Wasn't disappointed in it, since I read it at the airport, but there are better things out there; even better Expanse novellas.
