About book Got The Life (2000)

Nicki is a very interesting character. She has multiple jobs, and seems very confident in herself. I found the book to be nicely paced, but a little predictable. I found my self going "I bet this will happen" and then it does. I did like the twist toward the end. I found myself frustrated with Nicki and Sean's relationship. It was like they were dancing around each other. I enjoyed the scenes between Nicki and Charlos, but would have liked to see more. I don't want to get into too much detail because it is an interesting book. I can't wait to read the next book! I would recommend this book to others because it has a nice plot and story line. The character is interesting and engaging. “Got the Life: Nicki Sosebee #1” by Jade C. Jamison5 out of 5 starsNicki had me from her very first sentence: “Why do all the bad boys have to be so f**king cute?” In “Got the Life”, the first book in the Nicki Sosebee series, you can find humor, drama, intrigue, and lots of great sex! Embarking on a career in investigative journalism, our heroine hangs out in the criminal court looking for a story to tell. In the small county of Winchester true crime is few and far between, but Nicki stumbles head first into a case that tests her skills and throws her into danger.I love that Nicki never takes herself too seriously. Whether it’s dealing with her fellow employees at Napoli (the pizzeria where she works full time) or trying to earn favor with her boss at the Tribune Newspaper, she does so with a lovely humor. She is not bogged down with thoughts of grandeur and appreciates the value of hard work and determination. The mentoring relationship she has with her newspaper boss, Neal, is almost parental. He has taken Nicki under his wing and sees the potential she possesses. I like that he isn’t gruff and seems to genuinely care about helping her achieve success. The drama comes in the form of Sean, her super hot best friend since high school. Their chemistry is on fire and despite their “friends only” status you can feel the tension that surrounds their every interaction. I like Sean…he’s smart, down to earth, and loyal. He’s manly without being aggressive and seems to ground Nicki well. I could understand her longing for a more intimate relationship with him and Jamison does a good job of laying subtle clues that indicate Sean might just be doing a little wishful thinking of his own.Nicki definitely knows what she wants in the bedroom and isn’t afraid to go after it. She finds an exciting partner in Carlos and lets us know that even though she longs for Sean, she isn’t waiting around on him to satisfy her needs. I loved her confidence, her adventurous spirit, and her excitement in going after what she wants. Her excitement isn’t just limited to her personal life. She approaches her reporting with a zeal that is contagious. She possesses a great intuition and sees beyond the surface to the story beneath. As she ventures from reporter to amateur sleuth, continuing even into dangerous territory, we are right along with her…and rooting for her to solve the case!As always, Jamison has a knack for writing her characters very realistically. Nicki could be your sister, your daughter, your friend. She’s not glamorous or her lifestyle far out of reach. She’s everywoman and that makes her relatable. Jamison’s men are just as real, with depth, and seem attainable. I look forward to seeing what Nicki’s next adventure will be and how her relationship with Sean continues to develop. I would definitely recommend this book to all!!*I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*Shannon, My Secret Book Spot
