About book Gray Matter: A Neurosurgeon Discovers The Power Of Prayer... One Patient At A Time (2011)
WOW! A VERY different book. I am inspired by the first half of this book. As a physician it has, ocassionally, changed how I practice. For those looking for this type of faith journey, I have rated the book a 4*. Unfortunately, however, I believe this doctor carried his plan too far. He seems to have started to provide counseling which he is not trained to do. He also may be taking the risk of forcing a patient into a relationship that is unwelcome to them. A physician, esp a NEUROSURGEON is an authority figure. I am not entirely sure a patient would feel it possible to decline his offered prayer. We, as physicians must NEVER abuse, or fail to recognise our authority. For those who share my level of discomfort, take the faith journey he invites us on and simply stop at the point this book may have gone too far. FABULOUS neurosurgical stories. Loved this book! It is well written, deeply personal, informative, inspiring and compelling. I loved Dr. Levy's personal account of fear, disappointment, joy and learning to allow God to work through him. I learned so much and am more keenly aware of my personal opportunities and responsibility to influence those around me. A favorite quote from the book: "Life is short and it's full of need--sometimes desperate need. But it is just as full of opportunities to be used by God in astonishing and eternal ways."
