This is a collection of stories: Night's Darkest Embrace (a one-off by Jeaniene Frost), Mated (#3.5 in Shayla Black's Doomsday Brethren), and Darkest Temptation (#4.5 in Sharie Kohler's Moon Chasers). I really liked Jeaniene's story. It was totally a typical Paranormal Romance but it was an interesting story, although not enough that I would actively pursue reading more if it was part of a series. The other 2 stories were also typical PR but not even good enough that I would willingly read a full-length novel by either author. There's some steamy sex going on in these 3 stories but I never felt any connection with any of the characters. True, that's the disadvantage of short stories - not much time for character development - but still...Having just come off of the Devon Monk Allie Beckstrom series (Urban Fantasy (kinda Dark)) I guess that I'm just not in the mood for the stereotypical Paranormal Romance. Paranormal romance with sex. I can't believe I missed this one! It came out in 2010. Jeaniene Frost - 4 stars. I liked this one. Set in a new world of Nocturnia. Another dimension separated from ours by portholes. Only people who are partial demons can get through. Told in the first person, which can be frustrating for me at times. Shayla Black - 1 star. Clearly part of a series that can't decide if it's part JR Ward's Black dagger brotherhood or Harry Potter. Man whore Raiden had a relationship with Tabitha which has resulted in her being pregnant. Instead of "manning up" & mating with her, he dumps her. A contrived plot twist has her needing his protection. I REALLY hate it when an author makes her otherwise intelligent characters act in stupid, reckless ways in order to add a sex scene. Just dumb. Sharie Kohler - 4 stars. Good werewolf story. I wouldn't mind reading more from her. So, 2 good stories, 1 turkey. No vampires :)
