About book Hellboy Volume 12: The Storm And The Fury (2012)

As endings go, this was an epic ending. While some may have thought Hellboy did not possess his charm in this volume, I have to say it's not that it was flat. He had so much weighing on his shoulders that you could almost feel it throughout. When all else fails, go with your gut. I couldn't put this down. Though I had to take a small break to give my eyes a rest from the horrible pixel rendering of the digital copies I received from Netgalley. But I regret nothing. I do feel a loss at finishing this volume. But the artwork and the story just drew me in. I admire the artists and can't wait to read what they come up with next. I've been itching for this one ever since I read The Wild Hunt; I mean I have damn near been obsessively watching Amazon and the Dark Horse Comics website for a release date... I should have put the damn thing on preorder, but I figured, "how could I possibly miss it?" Damn thing snuck by me...Regardless, it was every bit worth the wait. The build up to this chapter in the Hellboy saga has been intense, and this one goes over every bit in the same manner as the Empire Strikes Back did when I was a kid... with jaw-dropping astonishment. The Storm and the Fury is bloody epic; I need not say more.Do not jump in to the Hellboy series here, this is volume 12 of a story that has been building for years. Many plot strings that were introduced way back in volume one (Seed of Destruction) are tied up here, and if you have not been following the series you will miss some of the best elements in this story... you'll still get a mighty fine story, but the real essence only bears fruit if you've been following Hellboy's adventures from the beginning. On a sad note: this will be the final volume in which Duncan Fegredo's artwork will appear... the up-side to this is that rumors are Mike Mignola will begin drawing the series again in volume 13, Hellboy in Hell. I can't wait.

And so it ends. Sort of. Epic, fun, and loaded with impending doom. As Hellboy should be.
