About book Highway Cats (2008)

This book was recommended to me by the reading specialist at my school and I can understand why she likes it so much. A group of stray cats and other animals live in a small wooded area near a shopping mall. One day three kittens are thrown off of a truck and change life for these animals for the better. But then their home is threatened. What will happen to the animals now? I think that this would be a great book for a book club or a reading group. The book is fairly short, but there are many issues that could be discussed. I found this book entertaining enough to keep reading it with interest. It's about cats who live by the highway foraging for food wherever they could. When baby kittens are left in the middle of the highway one day and lived as they made their way to the side of the road, it has an effect on the old cats. Amid trying to save their home from the humans and their tractors, the cats are also watching the kittens to see if they will survive. Of course they are taken in to be cared for. I'm not sure I like or understand the ending. Perhaps if I re-read that part I can get a better feel for it.
