About book Hit-Girl, La Precuela De Kick-Ass 2 (2013)

This is my favorite of the first three Kick-Ass volumes. Contained within is a hyper-violent story of Hit-Girl attempting to adjust to normal life while still living her psychotic superhero role in secret. The tension between these two worlds--and Hit-Girl's obvious desire to fulfill the role of good daughter to both her rediscovered mother and deceased father--makes this the most intriguing story. I am a much bigger fan of Hit-Girl as a character after this, and I think that she is truly the highlight of this series. If you're approaching Kick-Ass from a vacuum and don't want spoilers, you should of course start with the first volume. But if you at least have the idea of the general context of the series and are just wanting to get a taste, I would recommend starting (and perhaps even stopping) here. I'm intrigued by this story, 2nd book. Not sure why. I loved the first book, Kick-Ass, and couldn't help but continue with the series. Hit-Girl is a multi-layered character, who I find completely tragic and heroic. The book continues where the first book leaves off. Hit-Girl is living with her mother and stepfather. She is trying to fit in as a normal 12 year old in school, but the lifestyle of a 12 year old is completely oblivious to her. She enlists the help of Kick-Ass to help her be "normal" in exchange for training him to be a fighter. Not everything goes as planned. There's plenty of violence and gore in the book, which makes the book suitable for mature readers. The writing it great, and the story continues to grow, becoming more complex and it's characters more conflicted.

Kind of helps connect the KA2 movie I guess. I don't know. Mixed feelings land.
