Mike Lawson leaps ahead of himself here, taking his series featuring Joe DeMarco to a higher level.DeMarco is one of us. He has talent, is devious, displays bravery at times, but is no classical hero. He can barely handle a gun, drinks, goes to baseball games when he should be 'working', worries about his job, his future, his moral sense.Meanwhile Lawson is piling plot upon subplot, twist upon twist, bad guy upon bad guy, and pulling it all together into a tight, plausible, entertaining package. Billed as a 'thriller', this one will not cause you to lose your breath, but you might sacrifice some sleep, and you will surely keeping the pages.Recommended. Another fun book, though I enjoyed it less than some of the earlier ones. This one had some Elmore-Leonard-esque moments where the "bad guys" crossed paths with each other unknowingly, to the benefit of our hero. Those added to the fun. After reading 5 of these in a row I'm wondering if they lose some of their charm without a break between books. I'm reading something else before I start 67, and am looking forward to enjoying the next Lawson book I read.
