About book How To Heal A Broken Wing (2008)

PB 3: I think this book uniquely displayed a plot line by using mostly images instead of words. The pictures highlighted different events of the story, and I think this book is valuable because it could be a wonderful tool to lead a discussion with a child about what is happening in each picture. By guiding conversations with a child, the child can provide their own perspective as to what the people in the book might be thinking or saying. Also, the boy in the book that helps a bird that cannot repay him introduces an idea of behaving altruistically. Thus, I enjoyed this story and would recommend adults to introduce their children to it. How to Heal a Broken Wing is a heartfelt story about a little boy named Will who helps heal a bird's broken wing. The story is written at a level where it can evoke emotions from children. I think that this story is great for children at any elementary level. If I were to read this to a class I would have them make a text to self connection and talk about and write about a time where someone had helped them when they needed help.
