About book If He's Dangerous (2011)

Once again, when Hannah Howell is involved I am never sorry. This series is the perfect amount of paranormal and romance mixed together in a historical setting. A major part of the series and will not leave you disappointed. Argus comes across throughout the other novels as being someone to fear. It was nice to read him fall a little bit and finally meet his match through a little read head.A must read if you enjoy Hannah Howell. Despite its many flaws, I have rated the books of this series with four stars simply because they were entertaining. There was a little charm to the story that compensated for its little irksome aspects. This book was just plain annoying through and through. The culprit? Its main characters, Argus and Lorelei. I had a bad feeling that it would be bad when I read the synopsis. However, I discarded the idea when I started reading. Lorelei found Argus naked in her rose garden. Alright, that is interesting. The story quickly took a dive the moment Argus recovered in Lorelei's home. It triggered or showed Lorelei's creep factor. The instant love reared its ugly head again. Despite little interaction, Lorelei decided that Argus was the one. Despite Argus telling her to stay away, she drops by to see him. The whole interaction brings to mind a psycho wishing the injured person would stay that way so they could be together forever. It was just plain creepy. Argus didn't have much to recommend him either. He fathered two sons and left him to the care of a teenager. Despite his shame, he doesn't do anything about it. He also took her virginity with no intentions of marrying her despite promising her father that he would take responsibility if it happened. He was the worst and I wished people would stop making excuses for him. I couldn't really find redeeming qualities in either character. She was too sure that he was the one and jumped to bed with him, sure that he would marry her. She agreed to be his lover for a time but in her heart, she believed they would marry. She had the temerity to be shocked when she found out that the man she had known for a very short amount of time had secrets. I disliked that everybody made excuses for him. Olympia explained his actions away and excused him of culpability. Lorelei came away of the talk thinking she should love him more. Argus apologized very briefly. Despite chalking the whole issue up with youthful indiscretions, he still engaged in the same behaviour with her. He is still dallying with her with no intention of marriage. This book was just one big facepalm. Another annoying thing in this book is the spoon feeding of information. One moment, Argus is working away at explaining his behaviour, the next, other characters talk about him detailing those exact same thoughts. How did they even have access to that? It was just a device to hammer home that Argus is an understandable person despite his unlikable actions. It was very eye roll inducing and sadly, I spend the whole book feeling this way. I was beyond disappointed and I wished this book had very different characters because these set fail spectacularly. The low rating is because of the irritating characters and the general spoon feeding of information. Story Brief:Argus is captured by a crazy person who wants to steal his powers. He appears to Lorelei naked in her rose garden and calls for help. She does but his family didn't respond quickly enough. She finds him, somehow, and takes him to her home to recover. She kept dropping by despite his warnings to stay away. They end up having sex repeatedly. He had no intentions of marrying her despite promising her father that he would take responsibility if it came to that. His sons dropped by. She resolved to love him harder. More attacks came. She gets kidnapped and used as bait. The encounter killed the villain but he stabbed her hard enough to threaten her life. He realizes he loves her when she was dying. The healers eased her pain but it was still dire. She recovers but he is gone for a month. She is pregnant. He came back. She takes him.
