About book Imager's Challenge (2009)

This is the second book in the Imager's Portfolio, and it is a solid entry. The world already being established, this book does not have as much of Rhenn getting lectured about how this are, so that is a plus. One minor quibble, is that as things heat up towards the end the author was looking for a way to establish the rough way patrollers or folks from the slums would talk, and chose to repeatedly use the word frigging. I actually appreciate that he didn't insert the f-bomb into a book otherwise free of objectionable material, but I use of frigging was kind of jarring for me. I think it would have been more effective to invent a profanity. In the second of the Imager series, the main character Rhenn has a new job as a Civic Patrol in one of the toughest districts. Someone is trying to assassinate him almost every time he steps out of a "hack," which we know as a carriage. He continues to court his beautiful girlfriend Seliora and waits for the day that he can marry her.I highly recommend this series. The world building is excellent. Detailed. I was amazed at the author's insight into political problems of his world with 2 moons. I was also fascinated by the religions which take an active role in the series. I am a Christian and I was not offended by what I read. Again, I highly recommend this second book of the Imager series. It took me a matter of days to read through the 576 pages.
