About book Jack Of Fables, Vol. 8: The Fulminate Blade (2011)

3 stars for the overall relevance to the broader story, 5 stars for this arc.I stupidly jumped to book 9 thinking I had already read book 8 until I saw it on my shelf today. That I didn't know book 8 was missing from the plot says a lot about how essential this story is to the overall Jack arc, but I would have been upset to have missed this because this is a really fun arc that mixes a lot of science fiction and fantasy elements into a cohesive story. I wish there was more like this out there, I'd be a very happy camper. I enjoyed this one a lot better because it focused entirely on Jack Frost, son of Jack of the Fables. Jack Frost is a fun and likeable character, and in this book he has a series of fantastical adventures in a land not entirely unlike Barsoom . There's not much else to say about this rather slim tale, except that for some unexplained reason Babe the miniature blue ox gets turned into a plush toy. This is not what I would call a good thing - he looks far too cute/silly as a soft toy.

Do You like book Jack Of Fables, Vol. 8: The Fulminate Blade (2011)?

Deconstructionist myth-telling without a lot of depth to it, but its a fun read.
