About book Junie B. Jones Is Captain Field Day (2001)

There's no more accurately telling description I can give of Junie B. Jones and the celebrated series of books about her than to say that they are both an absolute joy. I can completely understand the enormous popularity of the series. Junie B. is hilarious in nearly everything she does; she can turn the simplest new concepts into epically humorous misunderstandings that will leave most readers in stitches long after finishing one of the books. At their best, the Junie B. Jones series is arguably the funniest thing in literature today, and there's a lot more than just terrific humor to the books. Barbara Park never fails to include that extra dimension of sensitivity and insight in whatever she writes, even as short as the stories in this series tend to be. What also makes these books easy to love is that Junie B. herself is so easy to sympathize with and come to love over time, and she's surrounded by other kids who are nearly as memorable and likable as she. In Junie B. Jones Is Captain Field Day, weeks of interminable waiting are about to reach their conclusion for Junie B. with her kindergarten class's year-ending Field Day finally scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Only one person can be the captain of the team for her kindergarten room, Room Nine, and luck is with Junie B. on this day. She is selected at random to fill that role, and from her reaction you'd have thought she had spent her whole life to that point hoping to someday become the captain of a Field Day team, instead of only having heard that such a position existed a few seconds earlier. Of course, that's Junie B.! Only things aren't going to be quite as easy as Junie B. would like. I think there must be some law of nature that every class in the world has a "Strong Frankie" except your own, Strong Frankie being the epitome of athleticism that no one on your side has a prayer of beating. Junie B.'s very own Strong Frankie opponent doesn't make it easy on Junie B. and her Room Nine teammates; they come up short in every game presented, and it doesn't appear that the trend is going to reverse itself anytime soon. Until, that is, a surprise from the ranks of Junie B.'s very own Room Nine peers shows her and her classmates that anything can happen if one refuses to give up in competition, and that any person is capable of surprising you if you give them a chance. I wouldn't rank Junie B. Jones Is Captain Field Day among the funniest books in the series, but there still are a number of laugh-out-loud moments, and the story teaches a solid lesson while never failing to entertain. It's hard to ask for a lot more than that. I like this book, and I feel that most others will, too.

Genre: Contemporary RealismShe’s at it again. Readers continue their journey following our favorite rambunctious kindergartener, Junie B. Jones. Only now, its field day, and she’s determined for her class to be champions, which requires her to step up and lead Room Nine to victory.a.) A major strength of this book/series is the character development of Junie B. Jones.b.) Readers cannot help but fall in love with this feisty character. Everything from the way she dresses to the “off the wall” things that come out of her mouth at any moment (good or bad) builds her character. The great thing about her character is that she is very similar to children of that age. They like to dress themselves, and whether we like it or not, they say exactly what is on their minds. c.) For example, on page 20, the author even keeps with the language of an average kindergartener: “After that, I runned straight to the sink in the back of Room Nine. And guess what? Mrs. Found a towel in the cabinet. And it was a red one! She pinned it on my shoulders. I zoomed all around the room. ‘Look at me, Mrs.! Look at me! I am fast as lightning in this thing!’”Curriculum Connection: There is always a problem or situation in this series that Junie must get over. I think these books would be a great example to explain and show the major parts of a story like plot, conflict, resolution, etc. I also think the characterization of Junie is a great way to teach adjectives. One advice for parents and teachers about this series: Junie B. Jones does tend to say some inappropriate words for young readers. I would recommend reading it yourself first to make sure you are alright with sharing with your children.

Do You like book Junie B. Jones Is Captain Field Day (2001)?

Cute book that was a quick read for my 1st grader. These books are always funny and Junie B. is very witty. The problem is that she uses words I don't allow my kids to say ("darned") and she talks about how her boyfriend dumped her which I find strange for a kindergarten book. I certainly don't want my 6 year old having boyfriends and getting dumped. These books seem almost unavoidable though - they are in the school library and my daughter's teacher reads them aloud in class. I guess the best I can do is try and read them too and talk to my daughter to make sure she understands that while Junie B is funny, she isn't someone we should model our behavior after.

Junie B Jones is Captain Field Day is a very interesting book it is funny and worth reading. This book reminded me of days in my childhood when I was in PreKinder and Elementery school it is a book that when you read it it will make you remember some of the little kid drama. Something funny about this book is that when you have smaller siblings in your family like I do you could compare them with Junie B Jones and some of her classmates you could see and compare that there attitude is the same, they are always fighting for the center of attencion, the boss, whos the best and who knows more than who.Junie B Jones has a very unique attitude because she tryes to handle her problems like if she was a ground up she has her own opinions and sugggestions. I recommend you to read Junie B Jones it is a book of adventure, compititions and attitude. :) Read and discover the treasures of this book and you will like it and remember good or bad memories.

I really like this book, because of the end. Where Junie B. Jones gives William her cape and let's him be Captaining field day. But my favorite part is where William does more pull-ups than the other class. I really like how they put in all of there effort for all of their activities. And I liked it when William kept saying that he could not do most of the activities.
