About book Junie B. Jones Is Not A Crook (1997)

SummaryIn this book Junie B. Jones gets a new pair of mittens from her grandpa Frank Miller. She fell completely in love with them and could not wait to show them off to her friends at school. When she got to school she takes them out for recess and gets in trouble for showing them off to her friends. While she is outside with her friends she ends up getting them stolen because she set them down next to her jacket. Junie cannot believe her eyes because she did not think that crooks even existed in school. Junie went to tell her teacher about the horrible news and her teacher took her to the lost and found where she thought it would be. Junie did not find her mittens but instead found a great pen. She ends up taking the pen to replace her lost mittens because she thought that would make her feel better, but little did she know it wouldn’t help.ResponseI gave this book a 5-star rating because I really enjoyed this book and I never read this one in the series when I was younger. I have recently started collecting the series for my own classroom because I see that a lot of young girls still read this series today. What I notice most about this book is that this book teaches a good lesson to children. It will teach them not to take things that don’t belong to them just because their own thing has gone missing. Classroom ConnectionI think a great classroom connection would be to have the children think about what they learned fro this book. We could write down the different things on the board to see what the children cam up with and then I would have them break into small groups to talk about what they learned the most. Then at the end of the day I would have each child tell me something that they learned and that would be their ticket out the door.Lexile/Guided Reading LevelThe lexile for this book is 400L. The guided reading level for this book is M. This book would be appropriate for grades 2-4 for a read aloud and should be read independently by grade 3

Personal Reflection - This is not the best children's book I've ever read, but it is perfect for the transitional reader. Girls especially can relate to Junie B. Jones style of talk and behaviors although I would hope they would know that she is a bit over dramatic - which is what makes reading the book entertaining. Purpose - Read to self for the 1st-3rd graderThis is one of many in the Junie B. Jones series which little girls will enjoy reading and just might aide in expanding their reading fluency and enjoyment of reading. There are moral lessons embedded throughout this book and all of the Junie B. series books. I can see many young transitional readers using this book for a book talk, a book fair, or a book report type of lesson. This book could lead to classroom discussions about the everyday trials in the school setting and in making choices with regard to consequences, albeit good or bad ones.

Do You like book Junie B. Jones Is Not A Crook (1997)?

Hilarious. Junie B. Jones never fails to amuse. I have read this out loud to children, I have read this out loud to adults - I've never had someone read or listen to a JBJ book without laughing. Park captures a child's exuberance perfectly. In this episode, JBJ's beloved furry mittens are 'stolen.' She goes to the lost and found to look for them and basically sees it as a free store of goodies. She then has a little conflict about turning in a multi-color pen she finds - is 'finders keepers losers weepers' the rule, or not? This sounds boring and moralizing, doesn't it? Well IT'S NOT. It's really funny.SAMPLE: I showed my mittens to my teacher. Her name is Mrs.She has another name, too. But I just like Mrs. and that's all."Feel them, Mrs.," I said. "Feel how soft they are."I rubbed them on her face."Oooh, they ARE soft, Junie B.," she said. "Be sure and put them in your jacket pockets so they won't get lost, okay?"I skipped very happy to my seat."Yeah, only I'm not even going to lose them," I said to just myself. "I am going to wear them right on my hands. The whole livelong day. 'Cause I love these guys, that's why."I took off my attractive winter jacket. And sat down at my table..........Just then, I got up from my chair. And I skipped to my boyfriend named Ricardo.I tickled him under the chin with my softy hands of fur."This is what fur hands look like when they're tickling you under your chin," I said. Then I grinned and grinned. 'Cause that boy brings out the best in me, that's why.

This book is about a young girl named Junie B. Jones, she is in kindergarten. She has her brand new black fluffy mittens out on the playground when they disappear. She was so upset that someone would take them and not even put them in the lost and found. She later finds a nice pen on the ground and decided she can take it if someone took her gloves. Throughout the story Junie learned about honesty and telling the truth. This book would be intended for students in 2nd through 8th grade. The main theme of the book is honesty and telling the truth. A lot of students can relate to Junie because they might have gone through the same situation in their life. The students who would be affected the most would be students Junie's age. The vocabulary is relatively low and the writing flows smoothly. Although the book is semi-long, it is engaging and funny so the reader won't get bored and stop reading. I would use this book in my classroom to show the students the importance of honesty in a fun and engaging way. So I highly recommend this book to any student from 2nd through 8th grade. Park, B. We just started listening to Junie B Jones unabridged on cd in the car. This was the first story on our set, and we loved it! The reader is perfect for Junie B. She sounds like a child and sounds just as I have imagined Junie to sound like! But I have even been laughing outloud in the car. My 2nd favorite line, "When I first opened them(the furry gloves), I got filled with glee. Glee is when you run. And jump. And skip. And laugh. And clap. And dance on top of the dining room table. Then your mother takes you down from the table. And she carries you to your room for a time out....Time Outs kill the glee."Junie B. JonesFrom "Junie B. Jones Is Not A Crook" by Barbara Park5 year olds don't talk perfect. Sit down and take dictation without interupting and see how similar they can be to Junie. Especially when excited.
