About book Just For Fins (2012)

Just For Fins picked up where book two ended. We have a whole ocean of trouble to shift through, and just the princess for the job. I knew going into this series, that with the exception a novella, this was the end of the series. (Or at least the end of what is out and has been announced, anyways.) So I had certain expectations. The plot was interesting. It had the right amount of tension and character growth that made the story fun. Book three had the same cute, fluffy humor that was spread throughout the first two. I liked watching her step up and take charge of a project that is important to her and her people. But for the "end" of a series, it was anticlimactic. It was like BANG, solve all the problems, and get the couple page spoilerish wrap-up. Maybe it was me, maybe it was the book, but if felt like something was missing. Like the ending was just too convenient. (And that had little to do with the story's climax, and more to do with the series ending.) Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate it or anything. It just wasn't quite what I was expecting, and not as good as the previous two. Wow. I can't believe I finished trilogy. I almost want more because I truly enjoyed every one of the books and can't get enough of the characters! If I didn't have school, I would finished this in a matter of hours because I couldn't put it down. I feel like Tera Lynn Childs truly had a comeback from the second book in the series. This was a great feel-good book, yet when I say that about other books, the book was not that great. But, in this case, I have never wanted a feel-good book more.I thought the book maybe was too fast-paced, but maybe that is because I finished it in two sittings. The story itself never dragged, and it never moved too fast. I'm grateful that it moves through some of the parts like going to school and catching other characters up on important news, but at the same time, I wish that something, anything was added to make the story longer. However, I recognize that it was time to retire Lily as a character as all had been said and done about her.Lily and Quince are just too cute. Of course, I may never have approved plots with teenage love (because I don't believe that it exists). I mean, Quince. I don't always crush on fictional characters, but when I do, it's because they're amazing. Quince is intelligent, handsome (I don't have to see him, to know that this is true), is loving and caring, and he understands people well (and, I can't say that I don't like guys who are a little bad boy-ish). Putting all of that aside, I've really enjoyed watching Lily grow up to be a responsible princess who knows how to teach old dogs new tricks. It also seemed as if the characters that were antagonizing her through the last two books started to mature and came to respect Lily. Enough about the characters...In terms of plot points, I was thoroughly satisfied. Although I wish I had gotten to see more of Quince and his trials, I know that in reality the book is not really about him. Although the beloved plot twists weren't in this book, I don't really care. I may have foreseen the final task when it was coming, but I didn't care. The story was too touching.Overall, I just couldn't get enough of this. This type of book is usually the kind I'm against due to too much romance or plotting issues. I almost wish I hadn't loved it. Childs got another one right against all odds. I mean, GAH! I just want a boyfriend, is that too much to ask? I highly recommend it to all teenage girls that like romance of any kind.WRITING STYLE/PROSE/WORD FLOW: A+CHARACTERS: A+++DIALOGUE: A+STORY/PLOTTING: A+OVERALL GRADE: A+
