About book Just One Damned Thing After Another (2013)

Ok, I admit it. I have an addiction to this series. I especially have an addiction to listening to the Audible version of this book over and over. I think that I'm at 5 times. I am totally in lust with the character of Leon, especially having gotten through book 4 and the short stories, and I keep coming back again to see how they "met" in this timeline. This is a time travel adventure. It makes me think of a better version of Bridget Jones, with the twist of being able to "visit" the past and the future coming back to visit as well. Fun, heart-warming characters match up with the muse of history twisting them upside down and around. Of the books in the series, this one is the simplest, and unfolds its core premise in bursts across the novel.I have read it as well, but am entranced by the audio narrator Zara Ramm. So don't blame me if you get into Book 1 and need to keep going and going...and coming back... I enjoyed the idea of the story more than I enjoyed the story itself. There were some parts that I really enjoyed. It was humourous - lots of tea drinking going on, good banter between characters, and the fact that Madeleine Maxwell, called Max and even Lucy later on in the book, attracted disastrous results like Pigpen attracted dirt.It had a Young Adult feel to it, and felt undeveloped. Mind you, I've read Young Adult books that were better developed that this. The character development was lacking. The way the characters related to each other was stilted and unrealistic. The romantic relationship was cold and aloof. One minute there was an in-depth discussion about dinosaurs and the next there was a little caveman action. It was totally unexpected. Funny - but just thrown into the story.I found some of the time travel to be a bit confusing. First, they didn't call it time travel. It was experiencing history in contemporary time, whatever that means. You jump in a pod, the world turns white, and you're suddenly running from dinosaurs. I call that time travel.I should stop with picking the book apart lest you think I hated it. I didn't. I gave it three stars. Maybe the next book in the series will be better than the debut book. Afterall, it is about Jack The Ripper.
