About book La Città Infernale (2009)

I am a huge elder scrolls fan. I have played every game in the series to some extent, excluding the side titles like "Redguard, Battlespire, and ESO." So when I heard that there was a book about it, I got excited! I bought it on kindle and started reading. What I found was no where near my expectations. The storyline was very original and unique, the characters are colorful, and there are many details. I can really imagine the characters in the realm of Morrowind, running through various realms of Oblivion, ETC. But something felt off. For one, the amount of sexuality in this book was disappointing. Not only was it disgusting, but it really felt out of character for the world of Tamriel. I mean, the games (excluding daggerfall) had little to no sexuality in them, and it just felt wierd. Not to mention the context of it plays against my personal beliefs. Another thing that really annoyed me was that the main villain, Vuhon, was not very relatable. He only appeared at the very end, and he only seemed to be a "MUAHAHA" type of villain. Sure, he had motive and all, but he just plain forgettable. Also the ending was really abrupt, and left me wanting. I found out later that there was a sequel that was basically a conclusion to the first book. I haven't read that one. Overall, maybe I just had too high expectations for a book based off of a video game. But, unless you are a hardcore fan of the video game series, I cannot really recommend this title. It was cool to get a glimpse into the written world of Tamriel, but I think it just fell short of something that makes The Elder Scrolls so memorable; the customization most likely. Keyes wrote a fantastical story with intriguing conflicts, but as with most novels, there is no room for customization. I should've known I wasn't to get the same experience as I get with the games, but I suppose I held out home. It's not like this was a "go to page XYZ for this and ZYX for this."Overall, I truly enjoyed the stories and I wouldn't mind seeing more fiction delving into the lore of The Elder Scrolls, or merely stories taking place in that expansive world.
